This was a restaurant & Souk that we went to in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A Souk is a shoppe or a group of shoppes and can be spelled different ways including Souq. A Souq can be indoors like a mall or outdoors like a flea market. Both are considered a Souk/Souq.
Across the street from the Souk was an Egyptian decorated building and I just had to take pictures to share with yall. I took lots of videos and pictures of my 3 month trip because I wanted to share them and make it seem as if you were on the trip with me, for those that may never get to go to Dubai, Saudi Arabia or Bahrain.
For those that know me in person, you know that for years I have had a camera basicly glued to my hands. I take pictures of everything.
IN THE TAXI DRIVING UP WHEN THE EGYPTIAN BUILDING CAUGHT MY EYE.
THE ENTRANCE TO THE SOUK.
SOUK SIGN
MY TWIN AND HER HUSBAND WALKING DOWN TO THE RESTAURANT. I LIKE THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS.
THE POSTS ON THE STAIR RAILINGS HAD DIFFERENT COLORED GEMS IN PRONG POSTS. ALL OVER THE MIDDLE EAST YOU WILL SEE TILE WORK AS YOU SEE ON THE STAIRS AND IN BETWEEN THE POSTS.
SMOOTHIE/DRINK STAND DECORATED WITH FRUITS. THIS IS AMANDA, WE ARE WAITING FOR OUR DRINKS.
KOSHERI IS AN EGYPTIAN DISH AND CAN BE SPELLED DIFFERENT WAYS. TRADITIONALLY IT'S A VEGETARIAN DISH MADE WITH SOME TYPE OF PASTA OR AS YOU SEE HERE MADE WITH 2 PASTAS. IT COMES TO YOU LAYERED WITH LENTILS, CARAMELIZED ONIONS, RICE AND SOME TYPE OF SPECIAL TOMATO SAUCE.
KOSHERI MIXED UP. MY TWIN HAD BEEN TO THIS RESTAURANT ON A PREVIOUS TRIP AND SAID THAT THE KOSHERI WAS TO DIE FOR. SHE WAS RIGHT. THE PORTION WAS SO BIG IT WAS ENOUGH FOR 2-3 PEOPLE, THOUGH WE EACH ORDERED ONE FOR OURSELVES.
THIS IS A CHICK PEA DISH, CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME OF IT BUT IT WAS REALLY GOOD.
MORE GEMSTONE TOPPED POSTS IN DIFFERENT COLORS.
AMANDA LOOKING AT ONE OF THE SOUKS (SHOPPES).
THIS SOUK WAS MAINLY FOR CLOTHING, JEWELRY & HOME DECOR.
YOU SEE THIS TYPE OF LANTERN ALL OVER THE MIDDLE EAST. THEY CAN RANGE FROM SMALL MELON SIZE TO LARGE BEACH BALL SIZE. THEY ARE MADE FROM METAL & GLASS, NOT CHEAP STUFF.
THIS WAS THE SIGN FOR THE CLOTHING STORE ABOVE. I TOOK A PICTURE BECAUSE MY NIECE'S NAME IS YASMINE.
How beautiful. It is amazing how well decorated their "malls" are. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a magical trip you're having. The souk looks so interesting but the food doesn't look that great, haha. Thanks for sharing because I KNOW that I will never be going to Dubai, Saudi Arabia, or that other place you mentioned. I don't even need to say "enjoy" because I can tell you're having a wonderful time with your sister.
