I'm making a minky patchwork blanket for a little 2 year old girl that lives in the children's section of the local Dhahran Hospital in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. My twin chose the Hello Kitty panel, I chose the border fabric and the minky back. The solid border is a medium purple Kona Solid and the minky is a Mint Dimple Dot.
Last night I finished the border and attached the minky back. Now I just need to do the top stitching. My twin requested that I do rounded corners. Finished it should be about 45"x65".
While in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia all of my work and many of my posts will be from the Dhahran Oasis Quilt Guild's "Quilt House".
BLANKET TOP ON THE DESIGN WALL. THE DESIGN WALL IS SHEETS OF STYROFOAM COVERED IN WHITE FLANNEL WHICH CREATES STATIC SO YOU DON'T NEED PINS!
ON THE WORK TABLES AT THE QUILT HOUSE, RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER OF THE BLANKET TOP & MINKY BACK. 2 SIDES PINNED TOGETHER. I SEW 2 SIDES AT A TIME WITH MINKY, ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM DOING ROUNDED CORNERS.
IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEWN WITH MINKY BUT ARE THINKING ABOUT IT, YOU NEED TO PIN THE HECK OUT OF MINKY, LIKE EVERY HALF INCH OR SO! SO BE PREPARED WITH LOTS OF PINS!
Lovely blanket.Kids love Hello Kitty. Thanks for the tip on minky.I sure will use it.
